How Much Do Professional Headshots Cost?
How much do professional headshots cost? If you search that in Dallas, you'll see everything from $50 to $1,000, and more. That’s not very helpful. When people ask me that question, what they're really asking is, is it worth it? Not what's the number. They're trying to figure out if spending more will actually change anything for them. Will it help their business? Will it help them get promoted? Will it stop them from hiding from the camera? Those are the real questions. Pricing's all over the place, because experiences are all over the place. Some photographers move fast and focus on speed, and others slow down and ask why. I'm in that second camp. Before I even pick up my camera, I want to know what these photos are for. What message are you trying to send? Every headshot has a job. That's what you're really paying for. Not the camera, but the judgment behind it. AI headshots are getting better, sure. But if your goal is trust, AI can't ask you why you're updating your headshot or. It doesn't know your industry. It can't build rapport or help you feel comfortable. And people hire you for trust.
When I hear headshots are just pictures, I think about how many clients have told me their new photos finally matched the level of their work or their new website. That's not about being photogenic, that's about alignment.
If someone's on a tighter budget, I'd rather help them get one strong, versatile image that they can use everywhere than stretch for volume. One image that works is better than ten that don't.
Not everybody needs an expensive headshot. A high school freshman? No. A college senior interviewing with a national firm? That might be a different story.
So, how much do professional headshots cost? At my studio, it starts at $395. But that's not the number I really want you to remember. The better question is, how will these photographs support my long-term goals?
That's the one that changes everything.
